Hi fellow Oppos. Let’s play a game of Guess the Damage Cost.

A little backstory. My 2007 MDX got backed into in the parking lot. It was parked by a valet, and since the parking lot was full (hence the need for valet), the car was parked perpendicular to the parking spots, ouside of the marked lines. This lady was backing out of her parking spot (non-valet), and ran into my car. She tried to say that it was my fault for not parking in a designated parking spot (or the valets fault, if I didn’t park it). Whatever. She was wrong. Nothing gives her a right to back into a parked car, regardless of how the car is parked.

Anyways, the damage is not bad. And as a blessing in disguise, the rear door had been painted in the past (by a PO), and not buffed out as well as it should have been.

See pictures. There is a little dent there as well.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

How much (of the lady’s insurance companies money) do you think fixing this costs?

$2000. The panels are black and it also looks like she got the trim on the front door as well.

$1200, if the shop blends the door into the quarter and front door.

And good lord did somebody halfass the job last time.

My first thought was the same. That’s a lot of peel. The good news is they get a chance to do it right this time.

I’ll put it at $2,700. Blending paint to match between separate body panels is ‘spensive.

Fuck it, spray the clear with the 1.8

The autobody teachers at my high school told us that black is by far the hardest color to match, never mind the fact that it shows ALL the imperfections.

I laugh only to keep from crying.

$2601 is my guess.

PS:I recognized the door protection strips, and knew it was a MDX  before I clicked on the post. How many miles do you have on yours?

$2000 seems too much. I’m having my whole bumper replaced and repainted and doesn’t cost that much in Canuckistan Rubles. Doesn’t look like any panel/door replacement is involved here.

The big part of my cost is the fact that it is black. It is notoriously hard to match black paint and it will show every little imperfection. There is going to be a lot of man hours to do it properly.

I’m somewhere around 130k miles.

And your guess is high. The total is around ~$800, plus $24 of my own money for a door ding. Now if the shop could only get it in before December.

Based on the suggestions here, it seems I’m getting a deal. My quote was ~$800 plus $24 of my own money for a door ding.

She did get the trim on the front door, but I’m only quoted ~$800. Seems I’m getting a deal.

Yea that’s a fairly decent estimate. The shop is quoting me ~$800 plus $24 of my own money for a door ding. Another shop (not an approved estimate giver by the other persons insurance) quoted me just under a grand.

And yea, the buffing on the last job is totally half assed. That’s what I get for buying a car in the dark, even if I did inspect it under all sorts of lights. I saw it, but it didn’t look nearly as bad at first. The good thing is the paint matches. It’s just the buff job that’s half assed.

Damnit. I got to start covering my pants with a thumb in pictures now. Seems that gives away just as much info as license plates.
